Zagreb in high summer, gold and unhurried, and it seemed to know exactly what afternoon it was catching when Andrea and Peter said their vows on the lawn at Riverside Golf Zagreb.
I’ve filmed enough weddings to know the best stories rarely start where you’d guess. Theirs began years earlier and thousands of miles away: two boys on a trip to Sri Lanka, a newspaper clipping calling it “the trip of a lifetime,” a girl met once on a plane. Peter went back for her anyway, against everyone’s advice, and found what he’d come looking for.
By the time I set up my cameras on the club’s grounds, that whole arc, the geeky neighbor, the popular girl, the years of long-distance stubbornness, had folded itself into something quieter: two people standing under a summer sky, saying the words out loud. Andrea Šimunić and Peter Alfred Johnson. I heard it in the vows read that day, in a brother’s toast about Andrea teaching him what real love looks like, in another’s reminder that love takes work, the kind you choose to keep fighting for.
Riverside Golf Zagreb gave us green, open ground and enough quiet to let the ceremony breathe, exactly the kind of outdoor setting I look for when a couple wants their wedding film to feel like a place as much as a day.
